This is just a journey, drop your worries. You are gonna turn out fine.

Today was a normal day in the PACU, steady with patients getting procedures done after the holiday. I did my usual routine of fetching warm blankets and assisting wherever needed an extra hand. I got to hold and calm a few patients which is always my favorite part. I often feel like a baby whisperer. But like most days, I tend to sit around and observe.

Lately, I have been struggling with my past, but being able to come volunteer and render my support and comfort to the patients allows the bitter, reappearing memories to evaporate. Most would think that being in the same atmosphere would make the situation worse, but it truly helps me value and put my life back into perspective. Seeing such young children facing all sorts of medical aliments really makes you appreciate the little things in life, for some may never get the chance to experience. For me, volunteering has become so important not only for personal growth, but because I am given the opportunity to contribute a small portion that goes into improving the quality of these children’s lives. Even though sometimes I experience days where it’s difficult to keep my head up, I know that I have the strength to do so and pass it on.
